Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as Microneedling, is a minimally invasive treatment to help rejuvenate the skin. It helps improve skin texture and firmness, reduce scar appearance, pore size and stretch marks. How is it exactly preformed? A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. These punctures trigger the body to create new collagen & elastin. Essentially, there are 3 parts to the Microneedling process.
Microneedling is recommended for all skin types and can be used on many body parts. If you are scared of the risk of infection or scarring from the little needle punctures, have no fear!
There is minimal risk of both infection and scarring.
It is recommended that Microneedling treatments are done in 4-6 appointment treatments that are spaced 4-6 weeks a part. A general Microneedling session takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the number and size of areas treated.
One of the most frequent questions we get asked is, “Does microneedling hurt?” It does not. Most times a topical anesthetic is applied to help slightly numb the area before the procedure is done. When the Microneedling procedure begins the most that is felt is a slight vibration from the device that is being used. Most report that it is is less painful than getting your eyebrows waxed.
How long is the healing process?
The healing time actually depends on the individual. Most experience slight swelling and redness or pinkness. A lot of people report that their skin is back to normal in a 24 hour period. The most common healing period is 2-4 days after the initial procedure is performed. However, it all depends on the individual. There is a calming complex that can be applied after the procedure is done to help soothe skin.
